The Muráň Plateau is one of the four national parks at whose crossroads Rožňava lies. You can watch ground squirrels on the Muránska lúka meadow, and horse riding is available in the park.

The climb to Muráň Castle starts about 40 km from Rožňava. Keen walkers can begin the day with the walk through the Slavošovce Tunnel and carry on up to the plateau.
